Hospitals

The team at CEGR Law has extensive experience assisting health service districts (formerly known as hospital districts) navigate their legal issues as Colorado local governments. Health service district staff may be expert in running a hospital and dealing with federal and State healthcare statutes and regulations applicable to all health care facilities, yet be entirely unaware of the separate body of law applicable to Colorado local governments. Staff are often surprised to learn that they have a whole set of laws to abide by which do not apply to their private counterparts, including competitors. TABOR, the Colorado Open Records Act, the Sunshine Law and election laws are just some of the issues which hospital administrators must navigate – often for the first time. Over the years, our attorneys have advised nearly a quarter of the health service district in Colorado as local government counsel (we do not advise on health care matters) and have even assisted in several successful efforts to organize new health service districts.
